Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes only from parcels classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, this great vintage by Pol Roger is produced in very limited quantities and only in vintages considered excellent, those years in which both grapes reached perfect ripeness. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, which is the traditional recipe of the Maison, the Vintage ages for at least eight years on the lees, a period of time that gives it class and longevity, precision and pride. A Champagne that embodies all the Pol Roger style: not surprisingly, it was the Vintage and make Churchill fall in love with the Maison at the time.
A very bright golden yellow, with dense and continuous perlage, a very fine nose that opens in a fruity fan of blackberries, plums and a touch of pineapple, then touching notes of brioche and cream, all enriched by a subtle and fresh mineral vein. A taste that combines power with delicacy, is dry and delicately savory, with a long citrus persistence. No doubt in due time, will have a return to the long, if you will have the patience to wait a few years.
Extremely versatile, it goes well with a platter of cold cuts and cheeses but also a lukewarm seafood salad, fish carpaccio and pasta dishes with shellfish.
