Petrus Boonekamp was a great Dutch liqueur who made this bitter, for the first time, in 1777, distilling rare vegetable substances from different continents and, from that moment, the fame of the bitter, which he had baptized with his name, spread rapidly around the world. There are many herbs that enter the composition of Petrus and among them all plays a fundamental role galanga, a perennial herb native to India and China, widely used in pharmacy as an aromatic eupeptic. On the label there is a warning that reads "die who does not serve", memo reported to bartenders around the world! The ideal way to taste it is at room temperature and without ice, which would alter its color and flavor.
Intense and luminous mahogany color, the nose has many herbaceous and floral aromas, with hints of dried rose, cherry in spirit and cocoa bean. The taste is decidedly bitter, balanced and soft, in a context of great structure and balance that make it pleasantly persistent. It closes on bitter returns of gentian and rhubarb, with a slight sprint of ginger.
